“I learned weaponry at five,” he stated proudly. “She will not be late in her learning. I want all of my children to be well skilled on the battlefield by the age of seven—it is part of their heritage.”

“Yes.” Cailyn crossed her arms, glaring at him. “Just like magic is inherent to all Omegas. You cannot restrict her from using it. I thought you understood that, Drocco.”
“I just told you she is permitted to use it within reason.”
Cailyn’s eyes flashed. “She cannot have a proper life if she is being shielded from her full potential, Drocco. She may become resentful or emotional, and hurt someone. Think about how that will affect her. You’re not thinking about her needs, only yourself.”

Drocco snarled as he stormed to her, holding her glare as her head tilted up to look at him. “I’m thinking about my family and the whole Empire, Cailyn. The Talent cannot be widespread. It will get out of control—it’s too dangerous. I thought you understood that.”

Cailyn’s mouth pressed together as her nostrils flared, and Drocco recognized the defiant look in her eyes. Anger prickled through him that she wouldn’t find a way to understand him on this point. She knew as much as him that the Talent was too dangerous to be put in the hands of a child, and no conclusive proof had yet been discovered by the Records Keep that using it didn’t harm Omegas in the long-term. He was already making allowances by saying Nayara could use magic to defend herself, why did his Omega always have to push things further than they needed to go?

He peered down at her, exploring their bond. Since her Haze ended, a sliver of something strange had burrowed deep within the flower in his chest. He’d thought it was because she was disoriented from her Haze—he’d been called away immediately afterward and hadn’t been able to nest with her—but now he realized it was still there. As he sought out the feeling, it spiraled out toward him, a pang of mellow discontent curdling in the bond.

Drocco frowned. “You have been upset since your Haze. What’s wrong?”

Cailyn’s firm gaze didn’t change. “That has nothing to do with magic and Nayara.”

Grabbing the back of her head, he pulled her against his body, relishing the surprise on her face and the gasp from her lips. “I have finished speaking on that topic.”
The bond trembled in annoyance, but before she could argue, Drocco cut her off with a hard kiss. Her anger bloomed in the bond, but so did her desire. He forced his hand down the front of her tunic, popping off the buttons and sipping his hands inside to grab her breast.
